A tribute to a PRINCIPLED NYC Chess player

 The ICC is a ruthless place by many people's standards. Intelligent people winning games against other intelligent people in completely level positions because they took 1/10 of second less on their clocks in blitz chess!

A resident of Croton, New York takes no quarter and gives no quarter in this regard. I watched him play on in a completely level position against a weaker player. Neil Basescu goes by the pizza name Pepperoni and wins a lot of games by clocking his opponent, but on this day the other contestant played for a Bishops of opposite color ending right out of the opening in a French Defense by just capturing White's proud e4 pawn on move 3. This avoids a ton of theory that the higher rated player Croton may have memorized. So the lower rated player beat the higher rated player in a game that would have been easily drawn in a USCF tournament.

Breaking Bad actor Art Glassman would have most certainly adjudicated the game a draw as any Senior TD would not tolerate the nonsense of shuttling opposite colored bishops back and forth for hours!

But at the internet chess club, bullet chess players will gladly sacrifice their Queen to win on time one move before getting mated OR play 104 move games like the one you see below where neither side has winning chances. Pepperoni requested multiple draws in the position which were repeatedly declined by the lower rated player because Mr Croton would have done the same thing. NO HARD feelings. IT IS WHAT IT IS!! even though this is a stone cold deadlock with the Black Dark Squared Bishop not controlling the White h1 square in the "wrong corner" where players in a longer time control tournament would agreed to a draw or Goichberg would call it a draw to avoid the spread of the Corona COVID-19 virus!!!

Flummoxed Swiss Chess player,

Bouby, from Switzerland, had played almost perfectly in this chess game having overcome challenging tactical issues in the late middle game.

However, the Swiss Jugadore played too conservatively and eventually blundered with a King move that allowed White to jettison(a term Houston/Atascosita chess teacher Clarence Yeung loves to use with his students) his h-pawn.

Despite Black's menacing central pawn mass, White went on to win the ending due to her actively placed King on d5 square in this Internet Chess Club blitz game that arose from the Bird's Opening.  I am certain that Jon Ludvig Hammer would not be shocked at the result of this game as he is a specialist in taking chances with activating his monarch with the heavy pieces still on the board, much like Nigel Short who deviously and bravely marched his king to h6 supporting a checkmate at g7 with Timman's Queen still roaming the board freely!!!!!

And Mr. Short, many female American atheists admire your willingness to stand up to the idiots who "pray to their fictitious" God for a win in a chess game!!! We are so astonished that "intelligent players of the Royal Game" could possibly believe there is some invisible force that gives a damn about the result of a board game!!! Belief in a a benevolent supreme being is the most large scale mass delusion in the history of the human animal!!!

Deceiving King and Pawn Ending for this Ohio Football Devotee

Les Horvath, Jersey number 22 according to well written piece by Matt Gutridge , was a venerated historical football player at Ohio State by being the college’s first Heisman Trophy winner.

So what does this have to do with chess Bobby Fischer would exclaim!? A gentleman, who plays solid and strong chess online, goes by Buckeye22. Well, what is a Buckeye or a Brutus Buckeye to be more exact?

A Buckeye looks like a chessnut, but is poisonous and can kill you like their vaunted defensive line! A weak idea for a mascot, but a mascot nonetheless.

So this ICC chess player from Ohio probably thought he was winning as he entered this King and Pawn ending with both White's d6 and f5 pawn being in the crosshair's of Buckeye22 's King at g7. However the Ohio State fan played the natural Kf6 and resigned 5 seconds later. 

Look carefully at diagrammed position to see how this chess addict self paralyzed himself leading to Zugzwang! I would have made the same blunder!! The on prix f5 pawn cannot be taken or the d5 pawn will Queen while in the meantime the fatally advanced Black e3 pawn will gobbled up by the White Monarch.

So logic dictates that the Ohio native can only advance his Queenside pawns  onto exposed and vulnerable squares!!!

Back to the Buckeyes football team who lost to Clemson this year. They fought hard and could have beaten Clemson had it not been for mistakes in crucial situations. BTW Black is losing also after Kf8, but it is much more challenging for White to convert.

Swiss Chess Curmudgeon

The internet chess club saves chess playing addicts tons of money by satisfying their craving of the Royal Game online. This cuts down on hotel room costs and tolerating rooms full of snoring, farting tournament players who leave small tips for deserving waitresses.

So many players trade this experience for blitz chess at ICC where Canadian players can play guys like gianky59 from Switzerland. He is low rated player who chooses not to resign, but let his time expire in losing position. As you can see in above pic, he will censor you for about anything. I congratulated him for a remarkably well executed smothered mate where he adroitly sacrificed his Queen to checkmate my King with his Horse. It was really ingenious as he forced me to surround my own Monarch with my stuff and his pieces!  HE CENSORED ME FOR THAT. Maybe just confusing me with another member of ICC. There are many obnoxious types who play there....

Even National Masters suffer from Materialism

The diagrammed position, arising from the Leningrad Dutch Defense, is sound evidence that even titled USCF players fall prey to the Chess Sin of greed. ICC player National Master rpenquin, is a gentleman and a scholar, but became fatally weak along the h1-a8 diagonal after mistakenly "winning the exchange" snapping off the inactive Rook in the corner.

It is just a blitz game, but look at the c1 Bishop and a1 Rook the NM is neglecting while all of Black's forces are active poised to attack on the permanently weakened light squares near White's Monarch. The NM should have "talked to his pieces" in the chess psychologist Rowson fashion. They would have articulated their abject misery about being locked out of the action and poorly coordinated due the avarice and materialism of the first player.

Concretely, with White to Move, the NM has no choice but to "castle into the menacing assault" on his trepidating King.

Neophyte players should be comforted to learn that even GMs are willing subject themselves to brutal onslaughts hoping to hang on to their precious material for an endgame conversion to victory.


Finally, I would welcome the valued input of Seattle, Washington GM Gregory Serper on the soundness of this National Master's decision to engage in such risky play. Serper is flexible in his approach to Royal Game capable of attacking or defending as the position dictates. Go Seahawks!!

Online Chess IM generously exposing himself to the Chess Masses

Francis E Anquandah(Ciseric) is a decent human being and humble sportsman. He is an IM or an International Master of Chess. One of his many laudable attributes is his willingness to play the much weaker players in Blitz at the Internet Chess Club(ICC).

In the diagrammed position you see below, the weaker second player chose the variation of The French Defense where the d pawn captures the e pawn on move 3 literally destroying reams of John Watson theory on the Winawer, Advance and the positional Nd2 variation. Black managed to use his only Rook to help stunt the promotion of the White b pawn while maintaining the Queening threat of Rook to King's Knight one if we must encumber ourselves with the onerously tedious English Descriptive Notation.

Francis confidently played Rh1 believing his b pawn would jettison down the board queening before the Black pawns got rolling. This turned out to be a misjudgement by the IM as the Black King can single handedly blockade the anemic White pawns. Meanwhile Black's g pawn will reach g3 forcing through Rg1 winning for the much weaker American player.

GM Alex Ipatov would have been proud of the dominating fashion Black made his pawns "go faster" than White's foot soldiers. Sexy Anna Rudolf would concur and I believe someone so beautiful should contemplate another profession! 

Also Charlotte Chess Center & Scholastic Academy does a marvelous job of training their students in subtle nuances of Rook and Pawn endings which have reputation of being ALWAYS DRAWN.

Punish this Greedy Player

The chess champion and philosopher E. Lasker was not fond of greed and spoke of ways of punishing greed and avarice in life and chess.

Lordi, a 50 year old player at the Internet Chess Club, must not be familiar with Lasker's aversion for pawn grabbing out of the opening. With the White pieces, Lordi misplaces a Bishop at a3 and a Knight at a4 to win the Black c5 pawn. Dan Heisman would get nauseous and Rowson would excoriate the Indian player fot not "talking to the Horse and Prelate" before engaging in such unprincipled abuse of the Royal Game! You see this idea in the Nimzo Indian Defense, but the pawn chains are more locked up or closed.

So how do we punish this careless and materialistic Caissa sacrilege? The move is not  obvious, but it refutes White's poor understanding of material and piece coordination. Alex Yermolinsky student Rikkitikkitavi also still battles the addiction of pawn grabbing in opening and late middle game. The relatively slow move solution appears under the diagram.
